Ewing Still Pondering Decision

As the Houston Cougars continue to build some of the final pieces of their 2012 recruiting class, the Cougars are eying a few linebackers trying to add at least one more piece to their defensive puzzle at linebacker.

One linebacker they have in their sights is Bellaire, (TX) outside linebacker Keith Ewing, who plays right in the Cougars back yard, just ten miles away from Robertson stadium. Ewing has drawn offers from some top level programs fielding offers from Houston, Arkansas and Arizona.

CougarsDen caught up with the talented three-star linebacker Monday night to talk about the recruiting process and what the coaching change in Arizona has done to affect his recruitment process.

"I'm still going to wait and see what kind of situation Arizona is going to be in with their coach," Ewing said. "It changed a little bit but I still want to wait and see what happens."

Ewing made a visit to the campus a month ago and came away impressed.

"I went to the campus about a month ago and I really liked it," the 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker said. "It's nice, there's a lot of room, and I really liked the weight room."

Ewing is no stranger to the 3-4 defense either and has liked what he's seen from the defense lately.

"I believe I could play well in their defense because my high school plays the same defense," the talented linebacker added. "All the blitzing and stunts off the end, we run the same stuff and I would feel real comfortable in that defense."

Of the three offers he has two of the three teams standout to Ewing.

"Houston and Arizona are definitely my top two schools right now," he added.
The Cougars recent success and national rankings don't seem to be hurting their case either.

"Yes it does," Ewing said when asked if the Cougars recent success makes a difference. "I like that the team is ranked and doing well. It makes a big difference that they are close, I would like for my parents to be able to come and see every game and even my church is close to U of H and that would make everything a lot better."

Ewing and his Bellaire Cardinals have been playing lights out and are eying a berth in the playoffs and a deep playoff run. The Cardinals are 6-1 (4-0) and haven't lost a game since an opening week loss at Clute (TX) Brazoswood. Up next for Bellaire is a tough match against 5-2 (4-0) district foe Houston, (TX) Lamar.
