Interest rising for south Florida DT
Recently at the National Underclassman Combine in Miami, Homestead, Fla. defensive lineman Michael Dozier was one of the top performers. In fact, the camp staff named him the defensive line MVP at the event that included top prospects like Todd Chandler. It is no surprise that Dozier has been receiving plenty of recruiting interest.
Though he has yet to receive his first written offer, Dozier has been receiving a lot of attention including a few verbal offers.
"I got some offers," Dozier said on Tuesday night. "USC offered me, Florida State and coach Chuck Amato came down. Ole Miss called, Ohio State, I talked to the coach from there and I talked to North Carolina yesterday. They were telling me that they were interested."
Dozier's father spoke to both Pete Carroll and an assistant at USC and the interest from the national program has him interested.
"I like the SEC and the ACC schools and other than that, I like USC, Ole Miss and even Louisville," he said.
After the National Underclassman Combine, Dozier attended the Nike Combine and has been invited back to the Nike Football Training Camp this weekend at the University of Miami. Dozier should continue to impress in that setting as his first camp was the NUC event. He also plans on taking some unofficial college visits.
"I'm not exactly sure but I was thinking about taking a trip to California to see USC," he said. "And on an unofficial visit me and my coach were thinking about going to Florida. I've seen UM practices a couple times. I plan on taking more visits I just haven't talked to them verbally."
At close to 300 pounds, Dozier certainly has good size but his strength lies in the quickness he shows at that size.
"I would say most guys won't expect me to have quick feet cause I'm 290, 300 pounds so I would say that's my strength is quick feet and explosiveness off the line," he said. "And I'm smart. I have a keen eye for the play for where the balls' going to be so that helps me out a lot."
