Another Possible Defensive Tackle
It's not hard to recognize that Baylor's position of emphasis this recruiting year has been on the offensive and defensive lines. The Bears picked up a defensive tackle commit following their camp Saturday when Baytown (Tx) Lee linemen Xavier Ruben gave Art Briles his commitment, and another blue chip defensive tackle from that camp may receive an offer soon as well.
Houston (Tx) Cy-Creek defensive tackle Will Hampton has picked up a number of offers from schools coast to coast, and although he is currently committed to Stanford, he made a trip to Waco Saturday for their July one day camp.
"I liked it. I like the coaching staff, and they have a nice campus. Coach Kendall Briles gave me a tour of their facilities and I liked them a lot," said Hampton. "The players lounge is nice. They have flat screens everywhere. I didn't get to go inside the weight room, but I peeked inside it and it was very nice."
Hampton communicates with Coach (Kendall) Briles around once a week, and he has built a strong relationship with the Baylor coach.
"He's a pretty cool coach. When I talk to him he asks me how I'm doing and how my family is doing. It's a pretty cool relationship. He's a really nice guy," Hampton said.
The Houston area linemen didn't walk away from the camp with an offer, but that doesn't mean that one won't be coming soon. The Baylor coaches appear to be very interested in the 6-3, 270lb defensive tackle.
"I talked to coach Achuff and he asked me to give Kendall my e-mail address so we can communicate back and forth," said Hampton. He wants me to call him next week so we can discuss further my future with Baylor"
"He mentioned it (an offer), but he wants to look at more of my tape and evaluate me further," Hampton said.
Baylor's camp this past weekend made a big impression on Hampton and if the Bears do decide to offer him a scholarship, then they would be in good standing for a possible commitment.
"They would move into my top 2-3. It's close to home and it's a great school," said Hampton. "I met all of the defensive coaches and they're real cool. I liked what I saw Saturday and it was a great first impression."
Hampton is still considered a Stanford commit, but other schools appear to have passed the Cardinal on hi list.
"The main schools I'm looking at are Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Baylor if they offer me," said Hampton. "I'm considering Stanford, but not really as strong as the other three."
Before the end of the summer Hampton plans to visit Notre Dame and Nebraska. Those will be his last two visits.
