LaFrance seeking MSU offer
Royce LaFrance posted solid numbers as a junior with 111 tackles, two sacks, 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions. But the 6-foot-2 and 230-pound LaFrance is eyeing more in his senior season at West Jefferson (La.) High School.Harvey, La., native and 2012 linebacker prospect
"I play middle linebacker but the coaches may move me to one of the outside spots this year," said LaFrance. "And that is fine with me and I can play any of the linebacker positions.
"I have really been working on staying low this year. I have to stay low on tackles and if I would have done that more last year, I would have produced even more big plays. I want to make more game-changing hits. I am also working on reading offensive linemen better and also working on covering receivers."
Lafrance currently holds offers from Arizona, Baylor, SMU, Southern Miss, North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe. He also noted other schools are also showing him interest.
"Kansas is showing me pretty good interest and so is Mississippi State," said LaFrance. "Ole Miss coaches are also interested and they want me to send them my highlight film. Coach Derek Lewis at Florida is recruiting me, too, and so is Coach Frank Wilson at LSU and the coaches at Alabama are interested."
This summer, LaFrance has camped at Alabama and LSU. On Friday he will make his way to Mississippi State's Big Dawg Camp and will see at least one familiar face on his initial visit to MSU. His cousin, Quadry Antoine, has already committed to the Bulldogs in the Class of 2012.
"Mississippi State said they may offer me if I do well at camp," said LaFrance. "I have high interest in those guys because of the talent they are getting from the state of Louisiana. That is a big reason I want to go there and plus, Quadry has been recruiting me, too, to look at Mississippi State and Quadry is a heck of a player. Mississippi State just wants to see me at camp and then we will see how that goes. If they do offer they would definitely be one of my top favorites."
Concerning his collegiate decision, LaFrance said he is just looking for that "comfortable" fit and is unsure of when that time may arrive.
"My mom wants me to wait a bit longer to make sure of my decision," said LaFrance. "But I just want to see where I am most comfortable at and see who offers my best future, education-wise. I really want to commit before the summer is over with so I can get it out of the way. At the least, I want to get it over by the second or third week of the season."
