OL Butler makes his decision

Joliet (Ill.) Catholic Academy two star ranked senior offensive guard prospect JB Butler (6-foot-2, 280 pounds) accepted a preferred walk on spot at Northwestern. Butler talks about his decision here.

"Go Cats," Butler said. "I really gave my decision a lot of thought and in the end I just couldn't say to an opportunity to go to Northwestern. They offered me a preferred walk-on spot and all I need is a chance to prove myself so I accepted."

Butler discussed why he decide to pledge to the Wildcats.

"It's really a lot of different factors for me. My dream was to always play football in the Big 10. I want to go and play at the highest level possible as well as earn a great degree. Northwestern offers me a chance and that's all I asked Coach (Adam) Cushing when we talked tonight. I just want a chance to earn my spot and to work for a chance to get on the field and play. Northwestern said they will give me that chance and I just couldn't say no. I'm very excited for the opportunity and so is my family."

Butler also feels that he will fit in well with the Wildcats roster.

"I know a lot of guys already at Northwestern like Blake (King) and Tyler (Lancaster) and a few others. I've been talking to those guys for awhile now and I just feel like I'll have a few friendly faces already in Evanston. Northwestern offered me an official visit and I'm taking that visit on January 17th. Northwestern is projecting me as an offensive center recruit."

Butler said that his decision eventually came down to Northwestern or accept an offer from Western Illinois.

"You'll never meet a classier group of coaches than at Western Illinois. They really supported me and totally understand my decision. They have been great guys to deal with and again they just made this a much harder decision for me. In the end it's hard to say not to your dream and playing at Northwestern is my dream and now it's my goal."

Butler is also thrilled to have his recruiting process completed.

'I'm very, very happy and relieved. It can be a really nasty process. I would say that the hardest part of the process is dealing with coaches who just seem to string you along. I just wish all of the schools and the coaches would be honest and straight with you but that was the case for me with a handful of schools. I'm just really happy and excited."

JB Buter is verbally committed to Northwestern.
