TBT: 2005 All State Offense

The impossible task? Without question each and every season attempting to choose the state's Top players is a daunting task indeed! Introducing my 2005 All State Offense for Classes 5A thru 8A!

QB Scott Tolzien 6-2 174 Fremd
A standout career for Tolzien at Fremd. One of the most consistent and accurate throwers out there in 2005.
QB Trevor Bupp 6-1 197 Johnsburg
Bupp passed for 3,319 yards in just 11 games 2005. Any questions on this choice? Didn't think so.
QB Demetrius Jones 6-3 192 Chicago Morgan Park
If anyone questions Double D's abilities, just show them the last play of the Mustangs 18-14 win last week over Simeon. Bigger and better things to come at Notre Dame. Two-time All EDGY selection.
QB Jared Funk 6-2 177 St. Viator
Had an outstanding senior season, and Vandy got themselves a Dandy in Funk.
QB Anthony Kropp 5-11 185 Lincoln-Way East
Went from having to earn a starting spot this summer to throwing for 2,780 yards and 30 TD's heading into the Class 8A state final game.
QB Bobby Brennesein 6-1 183 Sacred Heart Griffin
Only a junior, BB has passed for 2,893 yards and 35 touchdowns as the Cyclones head into the Class 5A state final game.
RB Dan Dierking 5-10 175 Wheaton South
Just a junior, Dierking has now put together two straight great seasons on the varsity level for the Tigers. Is the best yet to come for Dierking in 2006?
RB Darius Gates 5-9 170 Hillcrest
Gates could of made this team on either side of the ball, yet rushing for over 2,000 yards generally will keep you on the offensive side of the ball.
RB John Dergo 5-10 190 Morris
Two time All EDGY selection. Definite front runner for 2005 Offensive POY honors as Dergo heads into the Class 6A state final game.
RB Matt Mayberry 6-2 191 Hinsdale South
Rushed for well over 2,000 yards in 2005. An impact player who saw his recruiting stock soar this past spring. Verballed to Indiana.
RB Dominic Sulo 5-11 182 Chicago Mount Carmel
A blue collar/workhorse type of back who's gained 1,711 yards and has scored 17 touchdowns heading into the Class 7A state final game.
RB Joe Benson 6-1 205 Joliet Catholic
Two time All EDGY selection. Gained 2,183 yards and scored 29 touchdowns for the Hilltoppers in 2005. Verballed to play baseball at Purdue.
WR Marcus Lewis 6-2 198 Warren Township
Just an outstanding possession receiver with serious athletic abilities. Verballed to NIU.
WR Chris James 6-0 177 Chicago Morgan Park
As speedy and as athletic as any receiver in Illinois this fall. Reminds me of former Proviso East/Michigan State receiver Terry Love.
WR Alex Reavey 6-3 182 Sacred Heart Griffin
Caught 63 passes for 1,077 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first ever varsity season. Was on the SHG golf team last fall.
WR Marques Wilkins 6-0 182 Decatur MacArthur
Played mainly running back in 2005, yet Wilkins was just a danger all over the field in 2005 for the Generals.
H Back Ryan Lowmiller 6-3 205 Crystal Lake South
How can anyone ignore over 2,000 yards rushing from this strong back?
H Back Sean Hughes 6-3 188 Bolingbrook
Talented three sport athlete who was a clutch receiver for the Raiders in 2005.
OL Shawn Bernaky 6-6 310 Downers Grove South
Had another very good season for the Hit Hard gang in 2005.
OL Jan Gewont 6-4 290 Stagg
Had an exceptional senior season and the colleges have finally taken serious notice on Big Jan.
OL Panan Tense 6-4 330 Fenwick
One of the nastiest, toughest kids you'll find on the field, and a teddy bear off the field. Verballed to NIU.
OL Ramon Johnson 6-4 280 Chicago Morgan Park
Top ranked offensive linemen in Illinois. When Ray-Ray brings the nasty...beware.
OL Perry Dorrestein 6-6 285 Plainfield Central
Had a very strong senior season. Big, strong kid with huge upside for the next level.
OL Alex Perry 6-7 260 Morris
One of the best point of attack blockers I saw all season. Verballed to Indiana.
OL Brandon Frey 6-4 334 Montini Catholic
Great power and surprising mobility from Frey in 2005.
Athlete Tyler Knight 6-2 180 Maine South
Passed and ran for a combined 3,361 yards and 45 touchdowns in 2005, and can kick well over 50 yard field goals and is a talented punter and defensive back.
Athlete Nick Coleman 5-10 175 Thornton Township
Was just as tough as they come in 2005 leading the Wildcats offensive attack. Can play several positions at the next level.
KR/PR Hank Johnson 5-10 160 Lincoln-Way East
Excellent special teams player, receiver and more for the Class 8A state finalist Griffins in 2005.
K Ryan Donahue 6-3 185 Chicago St. Rita
Unreal leg strength and field goal range. Verballed to Iowa.
