OL/DL Mullen decides

Lake Villa (Ill.) Lakes junior offensive/defensive linemen recruit Ryan Mullen (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) gave Miami of Ohio his verbal commitment last week after making a recent on campus visit. Mullen talks about his decision and more here.

"I gave Miami University my verbal commitment," Mullen said. "After we visited the campus I had a pretty good feeling I was ready to commit. Even if I visited other schools and added more offers they still couldn't beat Miami (of Ohio) so I committed."

Mullen talked about why he decided to pledge to the Miami Redhawks.

"I just felt very comfortable and at home when I visited Miami. It's just a great university and a place where I can succeed on and off the field. The academics are strong at Miami and I know I'll get a great education. I also believe in the coaches and the plan they have in place to turn around the program. The people on the team and in the football program are just my kind of people. As far as an eventual position it's still up in the air. They like me as a defensive linemen but also haven't ruled out offensive line either and it's not an issue for me."

Mullen also pointed towards new Miami of Ohio head coach Chuck Martin and his staff as another big factor in his decision.

"Coach (Chuck) Martin and the rest of his staff are just very impressive. Coach Martin has had a ton of success at several different programs and he definitely has a plan. The coaches know that they need to rebuild the program and I want to be a part of the turnaround. I really believe in the coaches and I also believe that Miami is just a great place and an opportunity to be a part of a great success story."

Mullen in fact added offers last week from two new schools.

"Harvard and also UConn offered me last week. I'm just happy to have my decision made and I'm solid to Miami."

Ryan Mullen is verbally committed to Miami of Ohio.
