ATH Mitchell recaps NIU offer

Olympia Fields (Ill.) Rich Central senior athlete recruit Jyran Mitchell (6-foot-0, 190 pounds) was able to add a recent offer from Northern Illinois University. Mitchell discusses adding his latest offer from the NIU Huskies and much more in this recruiting update.

"NIU offered me a scholarship on Saturday," Mitchell said. "The NIU coaches wanted to see me live and wanted to see what I could do in our team's 7on7. They liked what they saw from me and offered, NIU offered me as a wide receiver."

Mitchell is very familiar with the NIU and NIU Huskies.

"I think we go to NIU every summer as a team for the 7on7 so I've been on campus over the past few years. I also have a lot of friends who either went to NIU or who already go to NIU. I also know that the football program has been pretty good over the years. NIU offered me as a wide receiver and I'm totally open to playing receiver in college. I just try to be as versatile as I can."

Mitchell has also draw increased recruiting looks this summer.

"I camped at Northwestern for the showcase camp and I ran well and also tested well at that camp. Northwestern had me run some routes for them and they seem to be more interested in me. I also have been in touch with Eastern Michigan, Toledo and also Cornell offered me at the Northwestern camp."

So what's next for Mitchell this summer.

"I don't have any camps planned for now. I'm just focused on team camp these days and we've been looking really good. Anything short of not getting to state will be a letdown."

Jyran Mitchell has scholarship offers from Central Michigan, Fordham, Illinois State, Navy, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa and South Dakota.
