Brummett pledges to NIU

Decatur (Ill.) MacArthur junior athlete recruit Amir Brummett (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process earlier this evening and gave Northern Illinois University his verbal commitment. Brummett, who was recruited buy the Huskies as a wide receiver recruit talks about his decision here.

"NIU just feels like home to me," Brummett said. "I've been talking it over with my family and my coaches and I just felt like it was time to make my decision. I called up the coaches at NIU and gave them my commitment."

Brummett discussed why he decided to pledge to NIU.

"NIU has a really nice program and I just feel very comfortable with NIU. They offer a really strong education especially in my major (graphic design). NIU from early on made me feel like I was a priority for them and that was also important. NIU offered me as a wide receiver and I'm totally comfortable moving over to receiver. Most schools had been looking at me as more of an athlete type of recruit anyways."

So why commit so early in the recruiting process?

"NIU just felt like the right place for me and it also felt like the right time to commit. I didn't want to wait and miss out on a great opportunity. I was honestly ready to make a decision. Recruiting made really really focus on what is important to me and I didn't want to pass up a great opportunity at NIU."

Brummett is also excited to be playing at the next level relatively close to home.

"NIU is a decent distance away from home but it's also not too far. My Mom and my family can still make the drive up to watch my home games at NIU. "

Brummett is now the fifth known verbal commitment in the NIU Class of 2018.

Brummett joins Andrew defensive end Mike DeHaan, Plainfield East defensive end Jack Sullivan, Phillips defensive tackle Queneil Morrison and Maine South running back Fotis Kokosioulis in the NIU Class of 2018.

Amir Brummett is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University.
