DE DeHaan checks in

Tinley Park (IL) Andrew junior defensive end Mike DeHaan (6-foot-6, 230 pounds) took part in Sunday's The Opening regional camp held at Halas Hall in Lake Forest. DeHaan talked about his first ever camp experience along with his recruiting news here.

"I had a great time today (Sunday)," DeHaan said. "I've never been to any type of camp like The Opening. I'm committed to NIU so I really did this camp more out of just going out to compete and experience this type of camp."

DeHaan, who is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University recapped his camp impressions and his performance.

"I enjoyed the camp. I was able to meet a lot of good people and just kids who you read about. I also finally was able to meet (Plainfield East defensive end) Jack (Sullivan). Jack and I have been committed to NIU for a while now and we'd been talking on Twitter but this was the first time we've met and he's a great guy. Overall I was happy with how I performed at the camp. My shuttle and 40 time wasn't great but I did well for the most part. I really went for the experience."

Dehaan also filled us in on his latest recruiting news.

"I'm still very committed to NIU. I went to a spring practice on Saturday at NIU and I had a chance to talk to some of the other recruits. I've also been hearing from several different schools. Several Ivy League schools have been in touch along with New Mexico, Purdue and also Iowa State."

So how does DeHaan handle schools who are trying to still recruit him?

"I mean I tell schools right upfront that I'm committed to NIU and they respect it. I just try to maintain a good and polite relationship with everyone and that's how I'm handling it."

Mike DeHaan is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University.
