DL Griffin is a Huskie
Homewood (Ill.) Flossmoor senior defensive linemen recruit Jeff Griffin (6-foot-2, 260 pounds) added a camp offer last week from NIU and a Saturday on campus visit in DeKalb sold him. Today Griffin gave NIU his verbal commitment and talks about his decision here.
"I visited NIU yesterday (Saturday) and that visit really sold me on NIU," Griffin said. "I always wanted to stay closer to home for school and once NIU stepped up and offered me it was a hard offer to turn down. After the visit on Saturday I was sold on NIU so I called up the coaches and committed this morning."
Johnson discussed why he gave the NIU Huskies his verbal commitment.
"I have a lot of friends at NIU. It's close to home and they also offer a great education. I also really like the coaches at NIU a lot. I get along really well with all of the coaches and I know they will make me a better player. Saturday was the first time I was able to really see the campus at NIU and it's really nice. NIU just feels like the best overall fit for me."
Griffin admitted that it's been a long process for him and is happy to have given NIU his verbal commitment.
"The recruiting process was a long process for me. I played offensive line last season so I didn't have a ton of tape so schools didn't really recruit me hard until they started to see me this spring and summer. I'm most comfortable playing anywhere on the defensive line and that's what NIU is recruiting me for in college. The coaches said they can see me play a few different spots in the defense if they need me to play them."
Look for Griffin to now become NIU's lead recruiter especially in the halls for Homewood-Flossmoor.
"I'm definitely already talking to Justin (Hall) and Mario (Wright II) about joining me at NIU."
Jeff Griffin now becomes the 8th known in-state verbal commitment and the 14th overall commitment in the NIU Class of 2018.
