Garlisch commits to SDSU
St. Charles (Ill.) East senior defensive back recruit Nick Garlisch (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) decided recently to give South Dakota State his verbal commitment. Garlisch takes a few minutes to talk about his college decision here.
"I'm very excited about South Dakota State," Garlisch said. "I visited SDSU back in May and I just loved it there. I had three options and all of those schools started filling up and I knew I didn't want to miss out on SDSU so I committed."
Garlisch discussed why he gave the SDSU Jackrabbits his verbal commitment.
"I just asked myself if South Dakota State filled up and I missed out on my opportunity how would I feel? I liked SDSU from early on and then once I visited them I was pretty sold on them. South Dakota State has a great program that plays in a great conference. SDSU also offers a good education plus I also have a great connection with the SDSU coaches. Honestly I really never found any real negatives about SDSU."
Garlisch, who also looked hard at both Southern Illinois and Western Illinois wasn't considering making his college choice until a few weeeks ago.
"I couldn't help but notice all of the kids who started making college decisions. I wasn't really looking too hard yet at schools but once I started to see kids commit I definitely picked up the pace and did a ton of research. Both SIU and WIU are good school but I just never felt the same connection with those coaches compared to the connection I have with the SDSU coaches. It's just a big weight off my shoulders. I was starting to feel more and more pressures from schools to make a decision soon."
Garlisch also admits that distance was never a factor in his decision.
"I never really looked too hard at staying close to home. SDSU also has a nice Chicagoland connection so I'll have kids on the team from here. Hopefully we can car-ride back and forth and work things out and hopefully add more kids from here to that pipeline."
Nick Garlisch is verbally committed to South Dakota State.
