LB Strong pledges to SIU
Belleville (Ill.) Althoff senior inside linebacker recruit Bryson Strong (5-foot-11, 215 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process and give Southern Illinois University his verbal commitment.
"I made an unofficial visit this past summer to SIU and I loved it," Strong said. "SIU recruited me the hardest and I just love the school and the football program so I committed."
Strong, who is getting ready for the Crusaders (9-0) Class 4A state playoffs this week went into details on his college choice.
"SIU just has a great family atmosphere and I also really like the coaches. Coach (Nick) Hill is doing a really good job and he's turning the football programs around and they are headed in the right direction. They've lost some close games but they have also been playing everyone tough. SIU actually came on late this spring in recruiting me but they also was 100 percent honest with me from the start. Just the staff's honesty and integrity in my recruiting was really impressive. I was drawing looks and interest from schools like Eastern Michigan, WIU, ISU, SEMo and Central Michigan but I just felt the most comfortable and feel at home with SIU."
Was distance a factor at all for Strong in his decision, who is less than two hours from Carbondale?
"Distance was never an issue but it really does work out great for my family and friends. I have a great family and support system and they can come watch me play in college."
Strong is now focused on the state playoffs starting this week.
"We are focused on getting back to the state title game and finishing the job this year. This team is a bit different this year compared to last season. Our offense is crazy athletic and our offensive line has been consistently good this year. Our defense is really solid and we are just clicking."
Bryson Strong is verbally committed to Southern Illinois University.
