LB Trieb adds an NIU offer

Buffalo Grove (Ill.) junior outside linebacker/athlete recruit Tom Trieb (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) made a Saturday visit to Northern Illinois University and came away from DeKalb with his second offer from the NIU Huskies. Trieb recaps his visit and offer from NIU here.

"I went to NIU on Saturday to watch a spring practice," Trieb said. "After the spring practice I went and talked with the NIU coaches and they offered me a scholarship. It was a great surprise for me and my family."

Trieb, who also has an early offer from Indiana State filled us in on his Saturday first visit to NIU.

"Saturday was my first time at NIU and I liked it a lot. It was good to see the team in a practice and they really have a lot of speed on the field. It was fun to just get to see some football in person and they really fly around to the football. NIU has a nice stadium and they also have a lot of newer facilities. I also like how the NIU stadium and facilities are all close together. The NIU coaches watched one of my workouts last week in school and I just didn't think they would offer me already to be honest."

NIU also surprised Trieb when they told him which position they project Trieb playing for them.

"NIU said that they are offering me as a tight end. I've never played tight end before so that was also a bit surprising. The NIU coaches just feel I'll be a good fit for them at tight end and I'm totally fine with it. I just want to play in college and I'll basically play anywhere the coaches want me to play."

Trieb was also able to start seeing college coaches in school last week.

"Last week the coaches from NIU made it into school along with the coaches from North Dakota and Western Michigan. I know that we are expecting more coaches in school this week. Iowa has told me that they will be in to see me on the (April) 27th. Ball State also said that they would be in school soon."

Trieb, who is running track this spring for Buffalo Grove (4x100 and 4x200) is also excited to get back on the field this summer with his team.

"We had a nice season last year and we bring back a good amount of starters from last year. We also have a good group of incoming juniors and everyone is excited to get back to work."

Tom Trieb has scholarship offers from NIU and Indiana State.
