LB Weerts visited WMU

Batavia (Ill.) junior inside linebacker prospect Luke Weerts (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) was able to make his first recruiting visit to Western Michigan on Saturday. Weerts, who has been a key part of the state ranked Bulldogs (8-0) defense this season recaps his latest recruiting news and more here.

"I went to Western Michigan on Saturday for a visit," Weerts said. "They ended up not playing the game because of the bad weather on Saturday but I still had a very good visit to Western Michigan."

Weerts recapped his first impressions from his Saturday trip[ to Western Michigan.

"It was an awesome visit and experience. I was able to see a lot of the school and I loved the campus along with the facilities at Western Michigan. I was able to talk with Coach (Eric) Evans along with some of the other coaches at western Michigan and everyone seems really nice. Everyone at WMU just made me feel very welcomed and the coaches asked me to stay in touch with them and to keep sending them my video."

So who else has been in touch with Weerts this season?

"I've been in touch with Western Michigan along with Cincinnati and also Toledo and a few smaller schools. I visited Cincinnati a few weeks ago and that went well. I'm also hoping to get out to see Toledo soon."

Weerts, who played defensive tackle last fall and who is playing inside linebacker this season also is pretty open when it comes to an eventual position in college.

"I played defensive tackle last season and this year I'm back at inside linebacker. Western Michigan told me that they are looking at me at either defensive tackle or linebacker in college. I dropped 20-30 pounds from last season and I also worked really hard on improving my speed. I knew that my coaches wanted me to play linebacker so once the season ended last year I started working on dropping weight and gaining speed. I'm also totally open when it comes to a position in college. I'll play anywhere they want me to play in college."

Does Weerts have a dream school?

"I've always been an Iowa fan. My cousin Matt Roth played for Iowa and I would love to get the chance to play for the Hawkeyes someday. I'm also hoping to get a chance to visit Iowa sometime soon."
