Maddox picks up an NIU offer
County Club Hills (Ill.) Hillcrest junior athlete recruit Cam Mattox (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) made a weekend on campus visit to Northern Illinois University and came away with his second scholarship offer this winter. Mattox discusses his visit and offer from NIU and more in this latest recruiting update.
"I went up to NIU on Saturday and they offered me a scholarship," Mattox said. "I had a lot of fun at NIU and it was also great to add an offer from them.
Dwyer filled us in on his first visit to NIU on Saturday as a recruit.
"I was at NIU just one other time and that was at last year's state title games when I picked up my All State award. I had a really great visit to NIU and I had a lot of fun. I had a chance to see the campus and tour the facilities. I also got to meet some of the players and I also had a chance to talk with a lot of the NIU coaches and got to know them better. We also went bowling afterwards and it was just a lot of fun. I know that NIU has been a winning program over the years and they are a good school and football program. NIU also had a defensive end who led the nation last season in sacks and that definitely caught my attention."
Mattox, who played outside linebacker in 2017 for Rich Central was offered by the NIU Huskies staff as a defensive end.
"NIU offered me as a defensive end recruit for them and they feel I'll be a great fit on the defense. The NIU coaches said they also have no worries about my being able to add more weight at all. The coaches at NIU feel that I'll be able to add more weight from now until i start college and that I have I'll be able to add even more weight and size in college."
So who else has started to take notice of Mattox these days?
"Wyoming gas started to follow me now along with the coaches from Kent State and Fordham."
Does Mattox have any additional visits planned?
"I'm heading to Western Michigan next weekend for a visit."
Cam Mattox has scholarship offers from Ball State and NIU.
