Malinowski pledges to ISU

Bloomington (Ill.) Central Catholic senior offensive center/long snapper recruit Joey Malinowski (6-foot-1, 245 pounds) late Friday evening decided to end his recruiting process and gave Illinois State University his verbal commitment.

"Illinois State was the one school that I wanted to go to from the beginning of my recruiting process," Malinowski said. "It's in my hometown and they just have so much to offer so I committed."

Malinowski, considered as one of the state's top long snappers also pointed towards several factors on and off the field in helping him make his college choice.

"Illinois State will allow my family and friends to come watch me play in college. Illinois State also offers my major (Ag Business) and is one of the top programs in the state. I also love the coaching staff at Illinois State. Illinois State has a great football program and I think that they will compete for a national championship over the next few years."

Malinowski traveled far and wide in searching for a college to call home and considered several options before committing to Illinois State.

"I considered any school that would offer me a scholarship. Unfortunately some schools just won't scholarship any long snappers or they wait until after the season to offer a long snapper. Illinois State came out right away and offered me a scholarship and showed me that they really wanted me. "

Malinowski is thrilled to have made his college choice and competed his recruiting process.

"I'm so glad it's over. I enjoyed parts of the recruiting process but it's also not that enjoyable at times. Schools just don't offer long snappers right away or they wait then offer a long snapper whatever money is left over at the very end. The hardest part of the process for me was just going to camps and outperforming other kids but the college coaches already had chosen the kid they wanted already. It's also hard when at times college coaches won't even pay any attention to you. Kids will drive hours to go to a camp and then no one really watches them."

Joey Malinowski is verbally committed to Illinois State University.
