Miller discusses his Miami pledge

Olympia Fields (Ill.) Rich Central junior defensive back recruit Mehki Miller (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) decided to give Miami of Ohio his verbal commitment on Monday night. Miller takes a few minutes and discusses his decision here.

"Miami (of Ohio) offered me a few months ago and I've been very interested in them for awhile now," Miller said. "I just felt that Miami is the best place for me and that they can get me to where I want to go. I talked it over with my family and my coaches and gave them my commitment."

Miller pointed towards some of the keys in his decision to pledge to the Miami Redhawks.

"Miami is just a great fit for me. Once they offered me I looked into them and learned a lot about the school and the football program. Once I visited it was really impressive. Miami has great facilities and they also offer a great education. I really like the coaches at Miami and they are the kind of coaches who can help me take my game to the next level, which for me is the NFL."

So why did Miller give Miami an early spring evaluation early commitment?

"The timing for me is pretty perfect. I just felt like I was ready to make my decision and I also didn't want to miss out on Miami. I don't want to have to worry about recruiting and all of that stress. I can just focus on school, my team and my senior season stress free from any recruiting issues. I can just go out and play my best football next season."

So what position did the Redhawks offer Miller to play?

"It's pretty open to be honest. Miami said they can see me play either safety or at a corner for them. I have no real preference and it's totally fine with me. I'll play anywhere they want me to play."

Miller is also excited to join a growing Miami Redhawks Class of 2019 which includes a handful of Chicagoland names.

"I played against Alante (Brown) back in grade school and we've been talking a bit on Twitter. It's a good class and it's just exciting to be a part of Miami of Ohio."
