Newsome pledges to Northwestern

Carol Stream (IL) Glenbard North three star ranked junior safety Greg Newsome (6-foot-2, 170 pounds) ended weeks of speculation and gave Northwestern his verbal commitment today. Newsome, who made several unofficial visits this past week on his spring break announced his decision via his Twitter account this afternoon.

"Northwester has everything I need," according to Newsome. "The people, the players the coaches, the community...you can't pass up on this opportunity (a Northwestern scholarship offer)."

Newsome is yet another impressive addition to an already strong Northwestern Wildcats recruiting class. The Wildcats and head coach Pat Fitzgerald have in particular taken care of business with in-state commitments.

Newsome is now the Wildcats tenth overall verbal commitment in the Class of 2018 and the sixth known in-state pledge. Newsome joins Lincoln-Way East defensive end four star ranked Devin O'Rourke, Libertyville three star ranked offensive linemen Charlie Schmidt, Crystal Lake Central three star ranked offensive guard Wyatt Blake, New Trier three star ranked tight end Brian Kaiser and Dunlap three star ranked tight end Charlie Mangieri.
