OL Johnson pledges to EMU

Normal (Ill.) Community senior offensive linemen recruit Marcellus Johnson (6-foot-4, 280 pounds) made a recent visit to Eastern Michigan and tonight decided to end his recruiting process and pledge to the EMU Eagles.

"I just felt a great connection to Eastern Michigan so I committed," Johnson said. "I visited Eastern Michigan on Thursday and it was a great visit for myself and my family. I feel great about my decision and so does my family."

Johnson, who had an impressive summer camp tour saw his recruiting stock beginning to take off but felt like he found a home at Eastern Michigan.

"The coaches at Eastern Michigan really impressed me. I was able to spend a lot of time talking to offensive line coach Luke Meadows and head coach Chris Creighton. I just felt that the coaches at Eastern Michigan will work hard to make me a better player every day. They are the type of coaches who I can feel good working with every day. Coach Creighton is just a genuine guy who has love for his team and the players. I had some great conversations with Coach Creighton and we definitely got to know each other better. The coaches at EMU just have a great passion for the game and for the team and the players. I was just really impressed with them. EMU recruited me as an offensive tackle recruit and it really doesn't matter to me because I can play anywhere on the line."

Johnson, who's older brother defensive end Eric Johnson plays for the Missouri State looked hard at his options before making his decision.

"I looked hard at Central Michigan, Missouri State plus Ball State and NIU. They are all great schools but I just didn't have the type of personal connection I have with everyone at Eastern Michigan. I also know that I'll get a good education at EMU and I spent a lot of time with the academic advisors on my visit."

Johnson is also thrilled to have his recruiting process completed.

"It feels good and I'm glad it's over. It was fun getting to meet the coaches and see the different schools, but I was ready to end it and commit to Eastern Michigan."

Marcellus Johnson is verbally committed to Eastern Michigan.
