OT Kratz recaps his OSU choice

Naperville (Ill.) Central junior offensive tackle recruit Fabian Kratz (6-foot-5, 279 pounds) recently gave Oregon State his verbal commitment. Kratz, who will also attend school in his senior year out of state discusses his commitment and more here.

"Oregon State will be a great fit for me," Kratz said. "I used to play as Oregon State on Playstation 3-4 years ago and now that I'll be playing on the team it's great."

Kratz, a foreign exchange student who will return home to Germany tonight for the summer discussed why he gave Oregon State his verbal commitment.

"Oregon State started recruiting me hard about three weeks ago and once they offered me I talked it over with my family, friends and my coaches. I just never really knew if I would be good enough to play in the Pac-12 conference to be honest. It seems like the perfect place from me. The climate is very comparable to my home in Germany. I also like the coaches and the direction of the football program. Oregon State is a hard working program and I'm also a hard worker. I want to help Oregon State win big. "

Kratz, who will play next fall at The Taft School in Connecticut admits that the overall timing for making his college choice was also important to him.

"I really wanted to make my decision before I headed back home for the summer. I'll be out of the country for the summer and the college coaches have limited contact times. I was getting worried that some schools wouldn't be able to see me this summer at a camp. I didn't want to wait too long to make a decision so once Oregon State offered me it was a pretty easy decision for me."

Kratz also reflected upon his just completed junior year at Naperville Central.

"I had a great time in Naperville and going to school at Naperville Central. At first I really didn't know anyone but the team really took me in and accepted me right away. My head coach (Mike Stein) also went out of his way to help me out and all of the coaches worked very hard to help me become a better player. I learned a lot and I can't wait to keep getting better."

Kratz is planning to make at least a handful of visits to Oregon State.

"I haven't visited Oregon State in person just yet but I'll definitely get out to visit them after this summer. I'm looking at taking an early official visit this fall and I also want to get out and see them a few more times during and after the season."

Fabian Kratz is verbally committed to Oregon State.
