QB Davis adds a WMU PWO
Naperville (IL) North senior quarterback recruit Drake Davis (6-foot-0, 180 pounds) was able to add a preferred walk on offer from Western Michigan University. Davis, who is preparing for the IHSA state playoffs this week discusses his latest recruiting news and more here.
"Western Michigan offered me a preferred walk on spot," Davis said. "It's definitely an option that I'm going to consider."
Davis has been on the WMU recruiting radar screen for quite a while before extending Davis a preferred walk on spot.
"(Western Michigan) Coach Tim Lester has been in contact with me since he was an assistant at Purdue. I also was able to work with some of the WMU coaches at the North Central College camp. I made a campus visit to Western Michigan when they played Ball State and I was really impressed with the school plus they also have a good staff."
Davis has been focused on the Huskies upcoming IHSA state playoff game at Oswego on Saturday night.
"Oswego is a very good team. I've played with some of those guys when I was playing for Boom (7on7) so it's going to be a good game. Oswego also has a very good defense and I'm just focused and excited about this week."
Davis also discussed his experience this season from playing at the 1A level to leading the Huskies at the 8A level.
"I was able to make the adjustment because I had a lot of great coaches helping me like my head coach (Sean) Drendel along with our offensive coordinator (Mike Fitzgerald). The biggest adjustment was getting used to the overall speed at the 8A level. The overall size of the kids wasn't really that much different from 1A to 8A but the overall speed was the biggest difference."
So what's the next step with Davis and his recruiting process?
"I'm just going to play out the rest of the season then look at everything after the season is over."
Drake Davis has a scholarship offer from Eastern Illinois University.
