QB Edwards is a name to watch

Granite City (Ill.) junior quarterback prospect Freddy Edwards (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) had a very strong sophomore season for the Warriors. Edwards recaps his latest recruiting news and more in this update.

"I had off season surgery so I didn't play basketball this winter," Edwards said. "I'm fully recovered and I'm back lifting and I'm getting ready now for baseball season."

Edwards has also seen some recruiting attention and has also made a few recruiting unofficial visits.

"I've been in touch with the coaches from Notre Dame, Missouri, Iowa, Central Michigan plus my coaches have had contact from both Miami (Fla.) and also Clemson. I was able to get out to visit both Notre Dame and Missouri last season for games. Both visits went well and I had a chance to see the schools in person and learn more about each school. I was able to talk with the coaches and some players on those visits and the coaches seem to liked my game video and both coaches wanted me to remain in touch with them ."

Edwards filled us in on what he working on to improve his overall game this off season.

"I'm working on getting bigger, stronger and faster. I'm also really working harder on improving my footwork and just refining my overall quarterback fundamentals and technique. I would say some of my strengths are throwing the football along with being a real threat running with the ball. I can read and react pretty well to the opposing defense."

Does Edwards have a dream school?

"I would say that my dream school would be Oregon. I just always liked Oregon especially when Marcus Mariota was the quarterback. Oregon ran a really high, uptempo offense that I think fits my style really well."
