QB Katrenick to Bowling Green

Algonquin (Ill.) Jacobs junior three star ranked quarterback recruit Chris Katrenick (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process tonight and gave Bowling Green his verbal commitment.

"I was ready to make my decision," Katrenick said. "I have been thinking about committing for a few weeks now. I've been talking it over with my coaches and family and tonight called up the Bowling Green coaches and gave them my commitment."

Katrenick discussed his decision to give the BGSU Falcons his verbal commitment.

"Bowling Green is just a good fit for me. I love the staff and I also like the family feel at Bowling Green. I've been friends with Scotty Miller (Barrington) who's on the team for a bit and he's been really helpful. BGSU is just a great program and school. I also loved the campus and I also didn't want to let this opportunity pass so I committed."

Katrenick drew several scholarship offers and looks this spring, admitted that the pressures to make an early decision also played a factor in his final choice.

"Quarterback recruiting is just so different compared to a lot of other spots. Once a few guys start to make decision it seems like everyone scrambles. My plan was to originally wait until after the spring evaluation period. I just felt that I didn't want to wait to make my decision. The last thing I wanted to happen was to find out all of a sudden that my spot was taken at Bowling Green by someone else. I just didn't want to wait any longer because I knew I was ready to commit to Bowling Green. It might seem like a really early decision, but in quarterback recruiting circles it's not early at all."

Katrenick is also excited about the Falcons offense under new head coach Mike Jinks.

"The offense under the old staff at Bowling Green was amazing. Now with the offense under the new coaches from Texas Tech it will be very similar. It's a very quarterback friendly offense, a very uptempo attack and it's an offense I feel I can fit into very well."

So who else did Katrenick consider?

"I looked at schools like Cincinnati, Indiana and Toledo hard. In the end I'm just very happy and excited about Bowling Green."

Chris Katrenick is verbally committed to Bowling Green.
