QB Perez commits to Navy
East St. Louis (Ill.) senior quarterback recruit Christian Perez (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process tonight and gave the US Naval Academy his verbal commitment. Perez talks about his decision here.
"I was ready to commit to Navy so I just committed," Perez said. "I was planning to go make an unofficial visit to Navy soon but I didn't want to wait to make my decision any longer. I knew that Navy was the best decision for me and I'll go visit Navy soon."
Perez discussed why he gave Navy his verbal commitment.
"It's a really big decision and I just felt very comfortable with the coaches at Navy. They easily recruited me the hardest out of anyone plus Navy offers so many opportunities on and off the field. Both of my parents are in the Air Force so in many ways I've been around the military my entire life. I fully understand the commitment both before the academy and after graduation at Navy. It's great to know that I'll have a job and a potential career path waiting for me after the Naval Academy. Navy also offers a great education and top academics along with a great football team. It's just a tremendous overall opportunity that I just didn't want to miss out on."
Perez considered several schools this summer yet always came back to Navy.
"I met some great coaches and some great people in my recruiting. I called every coach who offered me a scholarship and thanked them for believing in me but that I was set on committing to Navy. I really considered schools like Missouri State and Jackson State and Kansas State also started showing more interest. Navy just offers a chance to play at the highest level in college along with the benefits that come along with an education from the Naval Academy."
Perez also had no desire to drag out his college choice beyond this month.
"I wanted to make an early decision all along. I don't want anything to distract me from my team and my senior season. I'm just really happy and excited about Navy. My Mom is also really proud of me,"
Christian Perez is verbally committed to Navy.
