QB Thomas pledges to Illinois
Chicago Heights (Ill.) Marian Catholic junior three star ranked quarterback Cameron Thomas (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) added his first scholarship offer from Illinois a few weeks ago. Thomas tonight gave Illinois head coach Lovie Smith his verbal commitment.
"Illinois is the right fit for me," Thomas said said. "I feel I can really be successful under the guidance of the new coaching staff at Illinois."
Thomas pointed towards his relationship with the Illinois staff as a big reason why he gave the Fighting Illini his verbal commitment.
"The coaching staff at Illinois makes my family and I feel like we are already members of the Illini Nation."
Thomas, who is a dual threat quarterback and was projected as an athlete prospect by several schools was indeed offered by the Illinois staff as a quarterback recruit.
"They (Illinois) offered me as a quarterback ."
