RB Penik draws another late offer

It took a bit longer than he wanted or expected, but Highland Park (Ill.) senior running back prospect DJ Penick (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) has been able to add two recent FCS scholarship offers including more FCS and FBS looks as well. Penick recaps his latest offer and more here.

"I just added another offer this week," Penick said. "Tennessee-Martin (FCS) offered me a scholarship. The coaches from Tennessee-Martin made an in school visit back in December and they have also remained in touch since they visited. I called them a few days ago and that's when they offered me."

Penick discussed his impressions of the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks.

"I've heard some good things about the school and the football program. I know that they have nice facilities and that they like to run the football which is good for me being a running back. The coaches from UTM want me to come out and make an official visit soon."

Penick, who is also wrestling this winter for Highland Park is trying to balance both making football official visits without leaving his wrestling team during the season and post-season.

"I want to make some official visits but I also don't want to leave the wrestling season. It's a conflict for now but I'm trying to work it out. Both Tennessee-Martin and Murray State want me to make official visits. Also Eastern Illinois is planning to be in school on Wednesday and Central Michigan is also planning to be in school early next week."

Penick is just excited to see his recruiting stock finally begin to take off this winter.

'It took a while for things to get going. My coaches just told me to hang in there and I'm happy I did. It's been exciting to have a few offers and options now."

DJ Penick has scholarship offers from Murray State and Tennessee-Martin.
