Ruhland talks ND pledge
Once Notre Dame offered Cary-Grove (Ill.) junior three star ranked offensive guard prospect Trevor Ruhland (6-foot-5, 280 pounds) a scholarship a few weeks back, the Fighting Irish became the team to beat. Notre Dame secured Ruhland's verbal commitment this afternoon when the Fighting Irish made an in school visit.
"Once Notre Dame offered me they became the team to beat," Ruhland said. "I really looked hard at Notre Dame along with Minnesota and also Northwestern. All three schools are great but you can't beat the tradition, the education and the chance to play for a national championship so I committed."

Ruhland discussed why he decided to pledge to Notre Dame today.
"It's not everyday that Notre Dame comes in and offers you a scholarship. I felt a little bit of pressure because it was an offer and an opportunity I didn't want to pass up. I wanted that Notre Dame offer and once I received the offer I knew that they would be hard to beat. I made several visits to Notre Dame and I just always feel very comfortable when I'm there. I felt a great connection to all of the coaches and the players at Notre Dame. It's also pretty close to home so my family and friends will get a chance to come see me play. Overall it was just too hard to say no to Notre Dame."
Ruhland also feels very comfortable about making an early college choice.
"I just feel like I found a great fit for me and a place where I can succeed. I honestly don't see the point of dragging it out when I know where I want to go to school. I know Notre Dame can turn around and offer another kid for my spot and I just didn't want to lose a chance of a lifetime. I just felt ready to make my decision. I'm just really happy to have made my choice. I want to just go out and focus now on getting my school a state title this coming season."
So how did his family, especially his Dad Matt Ruhland (who played for Iowa) react to his decision to play for Notre Dame?
'My entire family is totally onboard. My Dad is wearing his Notre Dame T-Shirt and hat today and was all smiles."
Trevor Ruhland is verbally committed to Notre Dame.
