Sullivan competed at The Opening

Plainfield (IL) East and NIU verbal commit junior defensive end recruit Jack Sullivan (6-foot-6, 245 pounds) was one of several top in-state recruits to take part in The Opening Regional camp on Sunday at Halas Hall. Sullivan recaps his camp experience and more in this update.

"The Opening was my first real showcase camp experience," Sullivan said. "I just wanted to come out and compete and see what these camps are all about."

Sullivan, who is still very much committed to Northern Illinois University came away with a positive experience from The Opening.

"The camp was fun. They had a lot of good competition at The Opening and I =thought that I had a good overall performance. I wish I would have tested better but outside of that I enjoyed the camp. I also liked the coaches and they worked with us on some technique and drill work."

Sullivan was also able to finally meet fellow NIU commit Mike DeHaan at The Opening.

"It was good to finally meet Mike (DeHaan). We worked together at the camp and we had been talking a bit back and forth on Twitter. I'm sure we'll stay in touch and I'm sure I'll see him at NIU this spring and summer."

So have any other schools been pursuing Sullivan?

"I've heard from a few schools like Iowa State along with some Ivy League schools. I never want to close the door on anyone but those same school all know that I'm committed to NIU. I've stayed in touch with the NIU coaches about once a week and I was able to go to a spring practice about a week ago. I'm also planning to go back for the spring game."

Jack Sullivan is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University.
