2016 results: 11-1 (8-0 Little Illini Conference). The Eagles qualified for the 2016 IHSA Class 2A state playoffs. Newton defeated Auburn and Pana before losing to Carlinville in the state quarterfinal round.

Top Impact Player for Newton in 2017? The Newton offensive line featuring returning starters Gabe Fulton, Wade Frohning and Seth Wills will play a major role for the Eagles this fall. All three have the ability to play on Saturday's at the college level.

Newton has won back to back Little Illini Conference titles and seems to have enough back in the tank to be considered favorites once again at the top of the conference. However depth is as big of an issue these days than ever before for the entire conference and Newton will also need a bit of luck to avoid injuries etc this season..
