Walker reopens his recruiting

Oswego (IL) East senior two star ranked defensive back recruit Antwain Walker (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) has backed out of his verbal commitment to the University of Illinois and has reopened his recruiting process. Walker talks about his next step and much more here.

"I decided to reopen my recruiting process," Walker said. "Illinois told me that I would not be able to clear it's admissions and that I would need to go to Junior College but that they still wanted me. I talked it over with my family and I feel that it's just not the route that I want to go so I reopened my recruiting."

Walker, who is a full qualifier discussed his next move and which schools have reached out to him so far.

"A lot of schools seem interested but the issue is that a lot of those same schools have no open spots left. The early signing period (December 20-22) is just days away and is making it a lot harder to draw any offers right now. NIU has been in touch along with Purdue. I've also heard now from several other Mid American Conference schools. Western Michigan was also one of the first schools to reach out but they told me right away that they didn't have any open spots."

Walker, who is also on track to graduate in December from Oswego East will make an official visit this weekend.

"NIU offered me an official visit and I'm going to visit them this weekend. NIU always been interested in me and I know a lot of the guys that have already committed to NIU. I'm also hoping to get a chance at making a few more visits and I'm also hoping to visit Purdue soon."

Walker is also remaining in touch with a handful of other Big Ten schools as well.

"Besides Purdue I've also started to hear from Iowa, Indiana and Nebraska contacted my coach and requested my video."
