Watch List: DB Giavion Mason
Kankakee (IL) Bishop McNamara junior safety prospect Giavion Mason (6-foot-0, 190 pounds) was one of several impressive defensive backs inn attendance at last Monday's EDGYTIM Underclassmen Showcase powered by EFT Football Academy. Get to know this latest name to watch here.
"I like the drills that the coaches ran at the showcase," Mason said. "I also liked the 1 on 1's and the overall competition level was strong. I just appreciate the chance to go out and compete."
Mason filled us in on his latest recruiting news this winter.
"I've been in touch with schools like Ball State, Bowling Green, Ohio, Western Michigan and NIU. Ball State invited me to a junior day on January 28th and I'm planning to attend. My dream school would be Indiana. I'm planning to major in either sports management or sports broadcasting and Indiana offers great academics in both majors. I also visited Indiana back in the fall and it's just a great school."
Mason, who played multiple positions for the Fighting Irish last season is open when it comes to an eventual spot on the field at the college level.
"I just consider myself more of an athlete and I try to be as versatile as I can for my team. I played safety, outside linebacker along with several spots on offense. I'll just play anywhere I can to help the tea. Most of the college coaches are looking at me on defense as either a safety, a corner or as an outside linebacker."
Mason also talked about his overall game, his strengths along with what he wants to improve this winter.
"I feel that I have good speed and toughness plus I also have pretty good strength and good hands. I'm working this winter on improving my closing speed and also working on improving my man cover skills."

"I really like safety Eric Reid from the 49ers. I just like his overall game."
