Williams Jr. pledges to the Salukis

Centralia (IL) senior quarterback recruit Javon Williams Jr. (6-foot-2, 229 pounds) decided to give Southern Illinois University and head coach Nick Hill his verbal commitment. Williams Jr. discusses his decision and much more here.

"SIU offered me not too long ago and I decided to commit," Williams Jr. said. "SIU was my first big level offer and SIU also has a lot to offer so I committed."

Williams Jr., who had over 4,300 yards of total offense and 52 combined touchdowns in 2017 discussed why he decided to pledge to the SIU Salukis.

"SIU is a good school and I really like the campus. SIU is also close to home and that was also really important to me. I wanted my family and friends to have a chance to see me play in person in college and they can do that now. The SIU football program also has a good atmosphere and the team is also on the rise. I also liked some of the guys I met on the team and it just feels like the best place for me."

Williams Jr. was also attracted to the Salukis offense.

"SIU runs a spread read option offense that features a strong run aspect and that really fits my skill set well. I'm a bigger quarterback but I feel I can run the football pretty well along with making all the throws . I like the SIU offense and it's a good fit for me."

Williams Jr. was also drawing more recent recruiting looks before pledging to SIU.

"Besides SIU I was hearing a lot from South Dakota. South Dakota wanted me to visit them this January for an official visit. I also started to hear from Tennessee State along with McKendree and a few other D2 schools."

Javon Williams Jr. is verbally committed to Southern Illinois University.
