WR Crooms recaps WMU pledge

Country Club Hills (Ill.) Hillcrest senior wide receiver Corey Crooms (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) added a recent scholarship offer from Western Michigan after an impressive camp performance at the North Central College in Naperville satellite camp attended by the Broncos coaching staff. Crooms took a few days then gave the Broncos his verbal commitment and discusses his decision here.

"I've visited Western Michigan a handful of times already," Crooms said. "After they offered me a few days ago it was pretty exciting. WMU just always felt like home to me and a place where I wanted to go to school so I committed."

Crooms discussed why he decided to give Western Michigan his verbal commitment.

"Western Michigan just feels like a place where I can succeed. WMU is also a lot closer to home than I realized before I made my first visit and that was another factor that's important to me. My Mom and the rest of my family are really comfortable with WMU and it will be close for them to come watch me play. I also just love thew coaches at WMU, they are all good coaches who also get along well with the players."

So who else did Crooms consider before giving Western Michigan his commitment?

"I looked harder into both Central Michigan and also Kent State. I liked the coaches at both schools and they also had a lot to offer. I just felt that WMU would be the best fit for me and I'm just really happy that they decided to offer me."

Crooms is also thrilled to have his college choice behind him.

"It's been a long process and it also brings a lot of stress at times. I'm just happy with my decision and now I can just lock in and focus strictly on my team and my season. I would say the worst part of the process for me was just waiting on schools to decide if they would offer me or not."

Crooms is now the seventh known verbal commitment for the WMU Class of 2019. Crooms is also the sixth known verbal commitment from the State of Illinois joining Naperville Central quarterback Payton Thorne, Cary-Grove offensive center Addison West, Rich Central running back Sean Tyler, Raby wide receiver Marshawn Foster and Chicago Mount Carmel running back Kyle Davis.

Corey Crooms is verbally committed to Western Michigan.
