WR LaPorta checks in

Highland (Ill.) junior wide receiver prospect Sam LaPorta (6-foot-4, 200 pounds) has stayed busy this winter on the hardwood for the Highland basketball team this winter. LaPorta checks in and recaps his latest football recruiting news and more in this update.

"I'm playing basketball this winter and we've been having a good season (17-8)," LaPorta said. "I've also been keeping an eye on my football recruiting ."

Laporta, who played receiver and safety last season for the Bulldogs recapped his latest recruiting news.

"We had one of the coaches from Central Michigan in school back in January, plus SIUC is also been in touch and made an in school visit. I've also been in touch with the coaches rom Lindenwood (D2), Western Michigan, Iowa State and a few other schools. A lot of the coaches have invited me out to Junior Day events but because of basketball season it's been hard for me to get out lately. I'm going to be making a lot of visits in the spring once basketball season is done."

So what has LaPorta been working on to improve his game this off season?

"I've been a little limited in training hard because of basketball season. Once the spring gets here I'll really ramp up my training. I'm looking to get faster and also getting back into the weight room hard. I want to add 10 pounds of good weight and I'm also going to work hard on improving my footwork."

So what does LaPorta feel are some of the strength of his game?

"I feel that I'm a pretty physical player. I'm also very competitive and I always want to win. I love to compete in everything."

LaPorta is also excited about his 2018 senior season.

"We have I think 5 guys back on either side of the football. We lose some good kid from last year's team but we still have some good kids coming back."
