WR Payne checks in

Chicago (Ill.) Simeon senior wide receiver recruit Leon Payne (6-foot-0, 165 pounds) has been impressive this spring and summer and Payne was able to add his latest offer from Northern Illinois University after an impressive camp performance. Payne discusses his latest recruiting news and more.

"I'm in the car driving back from Florida," Payne said. "We (Boom Midwest) lost in the championship game at NFA Nationals. We play next weekend in Dallas and then the 7on7 season is done for the year."

Payne was also impressive at a recent NIU camp and added his latest offer from the in-state Huskies.

"The NIU camp went really well. The NIU coaches said I was impressive in one on ones and they offered me a scholarship the day after the one day camp. The camp at NIU was actually the first time I was on campus. Everything seemed pretty nice at NIU and I want to get a chance to go back and visit the campus and see more at NIU."

Does Payne, who is also in team camp with the Simeon Wolverines have any additional camp plans?

"For now I don't have anything set up yet. I'm focused on my team and then finishing up with Boom. I'm thinking about heading out East for some camps and some visits. I have been in touch with Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and a few other Ivy League schools. I definitely will look into what the Ivy League schools have to offer. I'm really impressed with the strong academics that they offer and I want to see more from the football side along with getting a better feel for each school."

Payne has also remained in touch with several schools this summer.

"I'm still in touch with the coaches from Wyoming, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Syracuse."

Leon Payne has scholarship offers from SIU, NIU, South Dakota and Arkansas State.
