CB Walker pledges to Illinois

Oswego (IL) East junior defensive back recruit Antwain Walker (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) was able to add a scholarship today from the University of Illinois and tonight gave the Fighting Illini his verbal commitment..Walker talks about his decision here.

"Illinois officially offered me a scholarship this afternoon," Walker said. "The Illinois coaches said that they really liked me after the campo on Saturday and that I should stay in touch with them. Once they offered me I took a little time to talk it over but I already knew I was ready to commit. I called up Lovie (Smith) and the Illinois coaches and gave them my verbal commitment."

Walker discussed why he decided to end his recruiting and pledge to Illinois.

"Illinois is just a great program and also a great school. Illinois feels like home and it's also my home state. It's Big 10 football and also a Big 10 education at one of the best schools in the country. Illinois has a ton of history and tradition and I also feel like I'll be given a chance to try to earn early playing time at Illinois."

Walker also pointed towards the coaching staff at Illinois as another big factor in his decision.

"I love the coaches at Illinois. It's a great staff with a ton of knowledge and I also like how several of the coaches have NFL experience. Coach Lovie (Smith) is just a great man and I'm just really excited about getting an offer and committing to Illinois."

Walker is also thrilled to have his college choice now behind him this summer.

I'm really excited that I'm done. IO can stop camping and just focus now on my team this summer and getting ready for my senior season."

Walker is now the third known in state commitment in the Illinois Class of 2018. Walker joins Peoria three star ranked QB Coran Taylor and two star ranked Danville offensive tackle recruit Julian Pearl in pledging to the Fighting Illini.
