Chicago (Ill.) DeLaSalle senior defensive back recruit Byron Perkins (6-foot-2, 170 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process tonight and gave the Purdue Boilermakers his verbal commitment.
"I guess you can say that this is a late Fathers Day gift for my Dad," Perkins said. "My Dad and I talked yesterday and he talked about being excited to see where I'll go to school and play in college. He was really excited to see me committed to Purdue and I feel great about my decision. My whole family is excited."
Perkins discussed why he ended up pledging to the Purdue Boilermakers.
"Purdue is just a great school. They offer great academics and I'm used to being an underdog. I've been an underdog my whole life and I feel that I want to help Purdue turn the program around. I'm excited to get a chance to prove myself at Purdue and prove myself in the Big Ten conference."
Perkins, who was recruited by the Boilermakers as a cornerback feels that he found a great fit at Purdue..
"Purdue just seems to fit me in a lot of ways. On and off the field I feel like I'll be a good fit. I looked really hard at all of my options and offers this spring and summer. I was really interested in Miami of Ohio. It's a really good school and they also offer great academics but in the end I just felt like Purdue is the best place for me."
Perkins is also happy to have his recruiting process completed.
"It's definitely a weight off my shoulders. So yes...I'm happy to have the process completed. I feel great about my decision and my family is also really excited for me as well. It's a great feeling."
Byron Perkins is verbally committed to Purdue.
