Griffin recaps his weekend visits
Danville (IL) junior kicker/punter prospect Caleb Griffin (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) was able to make weekend visits to both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Griffin recaps his visits and much more in this latest recruiting update.
"I was able to get out to visit both Minnesota and Wisconsin," Griffin said. "I have been in touch with both schools and overall I had good visits to both schools."
Griffin first stopped and visited Minnesota on Saturday for a Junior Day visit.
"I went to Minnesota first and I love the Minneapolis area. They have so much to do and the overall area in a real plus for me. Coach PJ Fleck is one of the best speakers I've ever heard. Minnesota also has a very upbeat and enthusiastic coaching staff that I also liked a lot. The new facilities at Minnesota are going to have everything you could want. The current kicker at Minnesota won Big Ten Kicker of the Year last season so it's good to see the kicker have success at Minnesota. The Minnesota coaches said they are going to take a kicker in this class, most likely as a preferred walk-on. Once they earn a spot Minnesota will then scholarship them. If I have to go that route, Minnesota would be towards the top for me but I also would prefer having an offer going into a school."
Griffin then checked out Wisconsin on Sunday for a spring practice.
"The facilities at Wisconsin are great. I liked the way Wisconsin runs a practice for specialist was really nice. I love coach Mehlhaff, he's awesome and you won't find any other special teams coach in the nation that was an All American, Lou Groza semi-finalist, NFL draft pick who's coaching at the same school he played for in college. Coach Mehlhaff told me that Wisconsin plans on offering a kicker and having whoever that is redshirt for a year behind the current kicker. I also have a good relationship with Wisconsin kickers already."
Griffin is also planning to remain on the road this week.
"I'm going to visit Iowa State on Thursday then Louisville on Saturday."
