About Jake Christensen? In his first full varsity season as a junior in 2003, Jake The Snake passed for 3,681 yards and threw for 33 touchdowns in leading the Lockport Porters to it's second straight Class 8A state title. Jake Christensen was named as a junior in 2003 as an All Conference, All Area and All State performer. Christensen is the son of former NFL quarterback Jeff Christensen. Christensen is also a standout baseball prospect (outfielder) who is getting scouted by several MLB teams. Christensen is a very solid student in the classroom (3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale) and he plans to study Broadcast Communications in college. Participated in the US Army Junior combine in January.
What others are saying about Jake Christensen? "One of the strongest arms to ever come out of Illinois." "I was really impressed with the way he developed over the season, he went from a thrower to a passer and he's a major player."
In Jake Christensen's words what he needs to work on the most this off-season? "I want to work on my overall quarterbacking skills, and to try to improve on my reads and stuff like that."
College contacts and favorites? "I'm getting alot of mail from Purdue, Michigan, Arkansas, Miami of Ohio, Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern. Arkansas basically have indicated that they will offer me in the spring."
Favorite college growing up? "Michigan."
So what is Jake Chrsitensen listening to these days? "I listen to alot of alternative and metal as well. I like bands like Linkin Park and several others."
Camps in 2004? "I might try the Nike Camp this spring, but I also play baseball so that takes away from me going to alot of the college camps."
Hobbies? "I like fishing as well as fooling around with cars, and I also like to read up on football and I also like the fantasy football stuff as well."
EDGY's take on Jake Christensen? Going into the summer last year, several people had serious doubts about Lockport having a chance to win another state title, especially with the Porters having to replace the 2002 Offensive POY in Steve Walker.....that is until I saw this lefty gunslinger in several summer passing 7 on 7's named Jake Christensen! Jake Christensen without question has a major league arm here, yet what also has been impressive has been the Snake's overall development as a quarterback in his 2003 season. Early in his 2003 season, Christensen took a lot of chances and made a lot of young quarterback mistakes. Yet with each game in 2003 the Snake learned the position more and more, and by the Class 8A state finals the Snake was a confident passer with the skills and ability as well as a better knowledge of the game than ever before. I can easliy see The Snake as a top prospect from the Illinois Class of 2005, and while some will question his overall size, no one will question his heart, strength, arm and overall ability here!
