LB Wright II pledges to Western Ky
Homewood (Ill.) Flossmoor senior inside linebacker recruit Mario Wright (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process tonight and gave Western Kentucky his verbal commitment.
"I'm just really happy and excited about my decision," Wright said. "It came down to Western Kentucky or NIU for me. I just always felt a strong connection with the Western Kentucky coaches and it's also a beautiful place."
Wright also felt that the Hilltoppers will be the best overall fit for him.
"Western Kentucky has so much to offer. I really loved it when I visited them. Getting a chance to see the school in person along with just sitting down and getting to know everyone better made a big difference. I gave my decision a lot of thought but in the end Western Kentucky is just the best place for me."
So with one teammate (Jeff Griffin) already committed to NIU and another teammate (Justin Hall) seriously look at the Huskies, did Wright really entertain playing together with his teammates at the next level?
"Oh those guys are my boys and we are all good friends so we definitely talked about playing together in college. In the end we all are going to do what we feel is best for each of us. They knew that I really liked Western Kentucky. In the end those guys will still be my good friends no matter where we play in college."
Wright was recruited by the Hilltoppers as a middle linebacker recruit.
"WKU feels that I'll be a perfect fit in it's defense. They run like a 4-2 and they like the fact that I can stay inside but that I can also drop back and cover guys. WKU really like my speed and my versatility and I'll be a good fit in the defense."
Is Wright happy to have his recruiting process completed?
"I wanted to definitely get it done before the season. We need to focus on getting this state title ring and I'm really happy and excited about my decision. It just feels good to have it done."
