OL West recaps spring recruiting

Cary (IL) Grove junior offensive guard recruit Addison West (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) took part in Sunday's Under Armour Camp at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook. West, who has been on the recruiting radar screen since his sophomore season checks in and recaps his latest recruiting news here.

"Recruiting has been going pretty well so far this spring," West said. "I added another offer on Friday when Eastern Michigan stopped into school and offered me."

West recapped some of his recent in schools visitors.

"Besides Eastern Michigan we also had the coaches from Iowa State and Northwestern in school earlier last week. I know that the Wyoming coaches are planning to be in school soon along with Michigan State, Purdue and Western Michigan. On some days we will have college coaches in to see one of our morning workouts and on other days the coaches just come into school and talk to my coaches."

So who else has been showing recruiting interest in West this spring?

"I have offers now from Eastern Michigan, New Mexico, Central Michigan, NIU and Ohio University. I stay in touch with those coaches along with the others like Western Michigan, Iowa State, Northwestern and some others."

So what has West been focusing on this off season to improve his overall game?

"I've been working 0n just getting faster and stronger. Improving my pass blocking has also been big since we don't do that a lot at my school. Going to camps like this one (Under Armour) showed me last year that I needed to really improve my quickness and pass blocking. I like these camps because it's a good way to compare myself to a lot of other guys getting offers and see where I need to keep improving."

West also filled us in on his take on the 2018 Cary-Grove Trojans.

"I feel like the conference (Fox Valley) will be stacked again this year. I just feel like we will be underrated this year because we graduated a lot of big guys off our line from last year. I'm the only returning starter on the line back so I'm trying to be the best leader I can for my team this spring. We've got some guys that a lot of people don't know about right now but that they will know about this season."

Addison West has scholarship offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, New Mexico, NIU and Ohio.
