School: Mount Carmel

Nickname: Caravan

Colors: Brown/White

Head coach: Jordan Lynch

Mount Carmel is currently #2 ranked team in the 2022 EDGYTIM.com Week 2 Chicagoland Top 30 poll

The Offense: The Mount Carmel offense generally operates out of pistol formation as the Caravan look to mix up a very strong traditional power run game. However, the play action passing game this season looked to also become more of a focal point in this 35-3 win over rival St. Rita . The Mount Carmel offense under head coach Jordan Lynch has continued to grow and develop from it's traditional power option game of the past into a more current mix of pistol formation option attack along with a much more wide open and current passing threat. It just seems to me that the overall offensive playbook continues to grow and add more looks, plays and various tweaks each season under Jordan Lynch and staff.

The Mount Carmel offense features senior QB Blainey Dowling (6-foot-1, 200 pounds). Dowling's impressive improvement of his overall game and throwing ability mixed in with his markedly improved physical growth and development has no question moved the needle considerably upwards when it comes to Dowling's overall recruitability. Dowling played with a ton of confidence along with just showing a better feel for the game. I can see Dowling drawing much more serious low to mid FBS to high FCS level looks this fall and he could be a potential FBS level preferred walk on candidate later this fall.

The remaining backs and receivers for Mount Carmel are both talented and abundant. Mount Carmel junior four star ranked RB Darrion Dupree (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) is a key along with junior WR Maurice Davis (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) senior WR Denny Furlong (5-foot-11, 185 pounds), while junior WR Darrion Gilliam (6-foot-5, 180 pounds) is a name on the rise along with senior WR/DB Damarion Arrington (6-foot-0, 190 pounds) and sophomore TE Danyil Taylor Jr. (6-foot-1, 220 pounds). Just the sheer number of quality backs and receivers for the Caravan in 2022 is really impressive and several names saw significant playing time including junior RB Alonzo Manning Jr. (5-foot-5, 170 pounds) plus senior WR/TE Jimmy Deacy (6-foot-1, 185 pounds).

The Mount Carmel offensive line? The Caravan offensive line was also impressive in this 35-3 win over rival St. Rita. Keep an eye on senior OL/DL Asher Tomaszewski (6-foot-4, 280 pounds) along with junior Rahfeeq Katumbusi (6-foot-3, 300 pounds), senior Charley Toland (6-foot-3, 285 pounds) senior Sam Singleton (6-foot-4, 350 pounds) and senior Eddie Fleck (6-foot-3, 255 pounds).

Mount Carmel also has a very solid special teams play and keep an eye on junior K Louie Chappetto (5-foot-5, 145 pounds) this fall for the Caravan.

The Defense: The Mount Carmel defense also had a very impressive performance in this 35-3 win over St Rita, and the overall speed of this unit really stood out to me in this win.

The Caravan defensive line features senior Voneil Williams (6-foot-1, 240 pounds), junior two way senior starter Asher Tomaszewski plus senior Bobby Medina (6-foot-0, 250 pounds) and junior Daniel Banks (5-foot-10, 190 pounds). The linebackers feature senior OLB Danny Novickas (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) along with senior Nickolas Naujokas (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) and junior Parker Startz (6-foot-3m 225 pounds). The Mount Carmel secondary features senior John Brown III (5-foot-9, 170 pounds), senior Nolan O'Brien (6-foot-1, 180 pounds), senior Nolan Smith (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) plus senior two way starter Demarion Arrington.

EDGY's Take on the Mount Carmel Caravan

The Caravan came into this Week 1 game against rival St. Rita with a ton of preseason smoke, and that will happen when you welcome back 17 returning starters along with a roster that just seems to be stacked with talent. Mount Carmel left this Week 1 game against St. Rita with an impressive 35-3 win and no question showed some very impressive early flashes of a team that to me looks to be built to make a deep run in 2022.

The Mount Carmel offense just seemed to be playing at a much different pace and speed this fall compared to the 2021 season. Starting with the much improved play from senior QB Blainey Dowling, who just looks like a different player both physically (bigger/stronger) and in his overall body language and confidence, to a veteran offensive line that just seems locked in to a group of skills that just seems to be endless for the Caravan. Yes....this was just a Week 1 game and yes....the Caravan will face some tougher games and face various issues in 2022. Yet overall, this is an offense that just looked in mid season form already.

The Mount Carmel defense? No question the overall team speed is much improved in 2022 and this improved speed and quickness goes from the line to the secondary. Everyone on this defense can flat out run to the football and they also wrap up and finish tackles really well. The Caravan defense locked down a St Rita running game that is the Mustangs calling card and then look full advantage and forced St. Rita into passing down and distance. The overall pressure that the Caravan defense brought was intense upfront, while the linebackers and secondary just covered and tackled really well here all game long.

This is a Mount Carmel team that played a ton of younger dudes in 2021 and this team has grown and developed into a potential state champion in 2022. The overall talent level, experience and confidence level is really high already in 2022. The Mount Carmel team early on looks like a long term state title contender in my eyes.
