O'Laughlin discusses WVU pledge

Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick junior tight end Mike O'Laughlin (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) made a visit to West Virginia this past weekend and wound up giving the Mountaineers his verbal commitment. O'Laughlin talks about his decision here.

"Before I left for West Virginia I honestly had no plans on committing," O'Laughlin said. "The visit this weekend went as well as I could have wanted it to go. West Virginia is just a perfect fir for me in so many ways so I committed."

O'Laughlin discussed why he ended his recruiting process and gave West Virginia his verbal commitment.

"The coaches at West Virginia are great and they just tell you exactly how it is. They don't fluff anything at all which I really respect and I trust the coaches at West Virginia. The offense ay West Virginia is just a perfect fit for me and my skill set. They recruiting me as more of a hybrid tight end type, more of an H back. They like that I can play as either an every down tight end or I can split out and also play receiver. I just love how the coaches have a plan for me and showed me how I fit into those plans."

O'Laughlin also loved everything at West Virginia on and off the field.

"I had chance to see the entire campus and I was really impressed with everything along with the facilities, the locker room and the weight room. West Virginia also has some amazing people and again it's just a perfect fit for me. West Virginia is far from home but my parents knew that West Virginia was a great place after this weekend for me and they support my decision 100 percent. My Dad grew up in California and moved to Illinois so he can relate."

So why commit so early in the process?

"These days committing early is the process. I know that West Virginia had offers out to other tight ends and the fact that they hadn't added a commitment yet was a gift. After making my visit this weekend I was ready to make my decision. I already had a school who offered me, then a few days later took another kid's commitment. I was not going to let that happen at West Virginia."

Mike O'Laughlin is verbally committed to West Virginia.
