Watch List: OL Spencer Harris

DeKalb (IL) junior offensive guard prospect Spencer Harris (6-foot-4, 290 pounds) had a strong 2017 junior season for the Barbs and head coach Matt Weckler. Harris, who has been drawing steady recruiting looks and interest this winter recaps his latest recruiting news here.

"I've been staying busy so far this winter," Harris said. "I took a week off after the season but I've been back in the weight room since then and I'm just working hard to get better for next season ."

Harris has also been able to get out to make a handful of college game day visits.

"I went out to Iowa a few weeks ago for a visit and I had a great time and a great experience. It was my first time ever visit to Iowa and they have a lot to offer. Iowa has great facilities and they also put on a nice presentation about what the football program is all about. I also just really liked the overall family atmosphere at Iowa and they also have great fan support, a great atmosphere and also a ton of tradition."

Harris has also stayed close to home to make a few more college game day visits. .

"I've been to NIU twice for game day visits now. I went to one Saturday game and one weekday game. The NIU coaches are trying to get to know me better and I've had two good visits so far. I definitely would consider staying at home and playing for the Huskies. NIU has a lot to offer plus I have a lot of my family living here in DeKalb and also in the area so it would be great for them."

So who else has shown recruiting interest in Harris these days?

"Besides Iowa and NIU I've also been hearing from Purdue, Miami of Ohio and SIU. Miami of Ohio invited me to go see a few games in person but I couldn't make it."

Harris also recapped his recently completed 2017 junior season.

"I thought that my season personally went pretty well. We didn't finish the season the way we wanted to but we played hard. I know that I could have done better. I'm going to work on my overall leverage and improve working on staying lower. I'm also going to work on improving my overall technique and just getting stronger and quicker."

So does Harris have a dream school?

"My dream school is Iowa. When I received a text from the Iowa coaches to come up and visit them it was a pretty cool moment. I've just always have watched the Hawkeyes on TV when I was a little kid and I've been a fan ever since."
