Chatham (Ill.) Glenwood sophomore offensive linemen recruit William Putnam (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) has hit the national recruiting radar screen this summer in a big way. Putnam, who already has early offers from Illinois and Pitt has had a very successful summer which includes performing at several key college one day camps.
"I have offers so far from Illinois and Pitt," Putnam said. "It still feels almost unreal to think that I have those offers along with getting to camp and work with the coaches at places like Notre Dame, Iowa and Michigan State."
Putnam, who transferred into Glenwood High School after living in Hawaii recapped his summer camp travels.
"I camped this summer at Pitt, Michigan State, Iowa and Notre Dame. I was able to work with some great coaches at each camp and they also gave me some great tips and feedback. Each coach teaches a bit differently and I was able to learn a lot of new technique. It was also fun to get to know each coach better and they all have different personalities and different ways of coaching and motivating. My goal was to be able to take something away from each camp to help me become a better player. I also feel like I was able to come away with more confidence in myself. I was able to go out and compete against some of the older guys you write about. The competition level at those camps was great and that can only make you a better player."
Putnam will now focus on his team this summer.
"I'm done with the college camps for the summer and it's all about focusing on my team the rest of the summer. We have a new coach (David Hay) this season and we have a few new faces yet everyone has been working hard and getting along great. I can wait for the season to get here."
Does Putnam have a dream school?
"That's a hard question to answer just because it all depends when I'm asked that question. I liked different teams when I was younger compared to now. I've always have rooted for Notre Dame and getting an offer from them would be pretty amazing."
