ATH Olges drawing new looks

Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier (1-1) junior athlete prospect Duke Olges (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) has been seeing more and more college coaches reaching out since the start of the open recruiting period on September 1st. Olges recaps his season, latest recruiting news and more here.

"I had to sit out last week (a 7-3 loss to Warren Township)," Olges said. "I was injured the week before against York and the trainers wanted me to sit out as more of a precaution. I'm fine now but it was tough sitting out and watching on the sidelines last week. We had a bad early loss last year and hopefully the loss to Warren will be a wake-up call for us."

Olges has also started to draw a steady stream of recruiting interest this early season.

"It's really picked up since September 1st. Illinois has been in touch and I'm going to visit Illinois for a game on October 28th. I've also been in touch with Michigan State and Coach Tim Salem. I've also talked with Minnesota and coach Brian Callahan and Minnesota invited me to come to a game this season. Western Michigan and coach Jake Moreland have been in touch and I've also heard from Central Michigan, Purdue and also Northwestern. I'm planning to make a call to the Northwestern coaches on Wednesday."

So when Olges starts to look into schools what factors will he looking towards in finding an ideal college?

"My focus is finding a school that puts a strong emphasis and also a good balance on both academics and football. Since I play a few different positions it's also going to be a case where how well will I fit into a specific system. Also the style of play will be another important factor for me."

Will distance play a factor in Olges final college choice?

"I know that my Mom wants me to go to school and play closer to home. I'm personally pretty open when it coms to distance. I'm just looking for a school that's the best possible fit."
