Brodner explained why he decided to end his recruiting process and pledge to the Commodores.
"Vanderbilt offers a top education, they play in the SEC and I also just loved it on my visit. Nashville is just a great city and the overall fit was great. Vanderbilt offered me and recruiting me as a running back. I felt all along that I'm more than willing to play another position and I still feel that way. Yet I also feel that my most natural position is at running back and it just works out great for me. The overall big picture for me is that I was able to find a school that's a great fit for me and I'm excited and so is my family."
Brodner had narrowed down his final schools to Vanderbilt and Illinois.
"Illinois also recruited me hard and they also have a lot to offer. It was really nothing negative about Illinois at all. I just felt that Vanderbilt is the better fit for me in the end so I decided to commit to Vanderbilt."
Brodner also has a strong connection already on the Commodores roster.
"Having guys already on the team at Vanderbilt like Hayden (Lekacz) and Nathan (Marcus) was a big plus. I was able to ask them questions and they gave me straight answers and made me feel welcomed on my visit. It was a good feeling to have some friends and old high school teammates already on the team at Vanderbilt. ."
Brodner, who plans to major in business at Vanderbilt is thrilled to have his recruiting process completed.
"I'm really happy to have it all done with now. It's just a big weight off my shoulders and I can just focus on my senior year now."
Sam Brodner is verbally committed to Vanderbilt.
