Campbell discusess WMU choice

Naperville (Ill.) Central three star ranked junior offensive linemen recruit Trevor Campbell (6-foot-5, 260 pounds) gave Western Michigan and head coach PJ Fleck his verbal commitment last week and talks about his decision here.

"I really didn't plan to commit to anyone until at least the summer going into my visit to Western Michigan," Campbell said. "I just knew that on my visit that I found everything I was looking for in Western Michigan so I committed."

Campbell discussed why he decided to end his recruiting process early and commit to the WMU Broncos.

"I just had a great visit to Western Michigan. I was able to get to know all of the coaches including having a great talk with head coach PJ Fleck. WMU is just a really nice place. I was able to watch the coaches at WMU work in a spring practice and it was good to see the coaches work with the players at practice. My position coach at WMU (Brian Callahan) reminds me a lot of my line coach at school (Pat Watson) and Coach Callahan just knows his stuff."

Campbell also was impresses with head coach PJ Fleck and Fleck was able to lock up Campbell's commitment after his meeting with the WMU head coach.

"I was just very impressed with head coach PJ Fleck on several levels. He's just a very honest and upfront guy who just is able to motivate his players and coaches every day. He just has an amazing amount of energy and is someone you want to play for in college. He asks his players to buy into the program and I definitely have bought the program and Coach Fleck's message. He's a very charismatic guy but is also very upfront about everything."

Campbell is also starting to get to know several of the State of Illinois commits from an impressive recruiting class.

"I didn't know any of the recruits until after I committed. The only kid I had heard about was Prince (Walker) and I knew that he was a great player. We have a group chat going and I'm getting to know all of those guys and they all seem to be pretty cool guys. It's exciting to be a part of such a great class and hopefully we can add even more kids from Illinois."

Hickcox now becomes the 7th known State of Illinois pledge in the Broncos Class of 2017 and the 12th known verbal commitment overall for Western Michigan.
