D'Ambra pledges to WIU

Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South senior outside linebacker recruit Nick D'Ambra (6-foot-0, 206 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process on Sunday and gave in-state Western Illinois University his verbal commitment. D'Ambra talks about his decision here.

"I made an official visit to WIU last weekend," D'Ambra said. "I decided to take a few days to sleep on it and then I decided that I was ready so I committed."

D'Ambra discussed why he decided to pledge to the WIU Leathernecks .

"It was just the overall fit for me at WIU that sold me. The players and coaches at WIU all seem to be on the same page and have a lot of the same goals. WIU just felt like home for me and I feel really comfortable whenever I visit the school. I was able to see a lot more of the school and get to know everyone much better after my official visit."

D'Ambra who was recruited by WIU as an outside linebacker also was able to get to know new WIU head coach .

"The new head coach (Jared Elliott) is the old offensive coordinator at WIU and he knows the football program and the history and tradition better than anyone. Coach Elliott is a family guy who really cares for his players and he's just a great guy. He is the perfect guy to keep the WIU train rolling."

D'Ambra is also thrilled to have found a college to call home next fall.

"I definitely considered signing early in December but WIU didn't offer me a scholarship until late in December so I waited. I wanted to make an official visit before I signed and I'm glad I waited and glad it all worked out. I had other offers and options including a PWO from NIU plus a lot of D2 offers. In the end everything worked out for me and I'm excited about my decision."
